  • Access denied error when accessing HDB files

Posted by nick_mospan on November 7, 2023 at 12:00 am

I started getting “Access is denied” error when reading/ querying multiple HDB processes pointed to the same HDB folder (HDBs sitting behind a gateway). The error is showing sporadically on different partitions, tables and files. A query usually succeeds on the second try. Queries are a simple select from a partitioned table like “select sum pnl from summary where sym=s” which goes over all partitions and extracts a summary. The error looks like this “./2020.06.18/summary/pnl. OS reports: Access is denied.”

    I’m using KDB+ 4.0 2021.04.26 Copyright (C) 1993-2021 Kx Systems

    OS is Windows Server 2016

I can’t pinpoint it to anything rather than some change in Windows or VM config. The error started to show up after a server restart but the system worked fine for a long time before. No other processes are accessing these files, at least it does not show up on Resource Monitor.

Does anyone have an idea on what could be wrong and how to fix this?

    Thanks a lot
